Mentorship is a key component to every successful youth-oriented program. Each student will be paired with a professional in one of several fields including but not limited to: business administration, public policy, marketing, advertising, publishing, music, gaming, media production, et al. Our mentors are required to produce several mentorship activities during the summer. This relationship will carry over throughout the student’s school year.
Scholarship is the primary focus of our program. Initiates will participate in a number ofeducational courses geared toward preparing them for the elite high school application process. These courses will include: test preparation, vocabulary, literature, civic leadership, and an elective course (photography, videography, journalism, creative writing, et al.). (381) has formed relationships with several elite private high schools here in NYC and boarding schools in the New England area; we assist with the application process to these schools as well as with the procurement of fee waivers/grants. Pathways Scholars (students who complete the program and move on to High School) will be offered additional leadership development programs and internships during breaks in schooling, to prepare for post-secondary life.
Entrepreneurship is vital to the mission of Three Eighty One Inc. Rising high school freshman Pathways Scholars will participate in our Pathways Plus program: students will be grouped to work with a minority-owned business in the greater Harlem area. They will create research surveys, business plans, and marketing strategies to help to expand the business. And with the assistance of a supervisor, the students will implement these plans.
Enrichment begins with activities that take place outside of the classroom. Sports, music, arts, community service—these are the activities that build character, that prepare our young people for the coming challenges. (381) will partner with organizations that specialize in programming of this nature. Our students will enroll in our partner programs and will be monitored by (381) staff. .
